*Thyroid Px is a balanced blend of nutrients and botanicals that is designed to support the healthy functioning of the thyroid gland while simultaneously maintaining healthy peripheral metabolic function.
This synergistic blend of nutrients and herbs help optimize healthy thyroid function, normal body temperature and general metabolic rate. This formula can help stabilize thyroid peroxidase immunoglobulins which are a common disruptor to normal thyroid activity. The powerful antioxidants selenium and zinc, as well as the guggul gum resin help neutralize free radicals that affect iodothryonine-5-monodeiodinase enzyme activity, the rate limiting step in the conversion of T4 to the active T3 hormone.
Iris species contain oleoresins in their roots and are historically claimed to promote body secretions, move fluid (lymph), and support the thyroid gland. The resin of the Guggul Tree is a powerful adaptogen which helps support thyroid, liver and kidney function. Studies suggest that Guggul helps the thyroid to increase iodine metabolism and increases the conversion of T4 to T3 in body tissues. Iodine plays an important role in thyroid function and helps maintain healthy cellular metabolism.
Fucus species and several other seaweeds are well known to contain DIT (3,5-Diiodotyrosine) which humans also produce as a stepping stone in the synthesis of the formation of active thyroid hormones. Providing the body with DIT helps to give the thyroid gland the raw material to more readily produce thyroxine. This is one of the reasons that people in Europe were traditionally advised to take seaweed baths and eat seaweed soups to support thyroid function. DIT is comprised of the amino acid tyrosine that is complexed with several atoms of iodine, the identical intermediate molecule synthesized in the thyroid glands of animals. Tyrosine itself supports the thyroid gland and studies show that the combination of tyrosine and iodine support thyroid function. Fucus is used in its whole form in these formulas and additional DIT is extracted from seaweed to create a targeted and powerful formula.
Thyroid Px is a stronger thyroid support formula than ThyroCare and is recommended except when Iodine supplementation is not indicated or appropriate. The addition of 12.5 mg iodine per dose in the forms of potassium iodide, seaweed and DIT are added to support thyroid function.
Ingestion of iodine and/or iodide has been associated with heart palpitations, acne-like skin lesions, headache in the frontal sinus cavities, unpleasant brassy taste, and increased salivation and sneezing. Some sensitive individuals may not tolerate high doses, even when indicated. Iodine supplementation indirectly stimulates TSH production which increases the absorption of Iodine into the thyroid gland. TSH levels might transiently increase for several months on this product while simultaneously maintaining healthy thyroid hormone levels.
Caution: One capsule of Thyroid Px EXCEEDS the Recommended Daily Allowance for Iodine. Thyroid Px can potentiate thyroid hormone replacement medications. T3 (L-thyronine) or T4(levothyroxine) drug dosages need to be monitored after several months on this product.
